Welcome
Welcome to our blog. On a regular basis we will post articles and information here that relate to the focus of this website. That focus is on improving public education in Texas by:
Helping stakeholders — parents, teachers, taxpayers and students — understand the legal responsibilities of their local school board members, their ISD superintendent, the Texas Commission of Education and the members of the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
Empowering stakeholders by giving them information and advice they can use to help education leaders fulfill their responsibilities according to policy and the law to serve and save students — not harm them — and to help make certain (not assume) that those leaders understand what their responsibilities are in the first place.
Ensuring that the State of Texas and individual ISDs make effective use of all education resources — money, people, time equipment and supplies – in order to benefit students.
ImproveTexasSchools believes that all of us should work hand-in-hand with education leaders to ensure that students always come first and that every student has the opportunity for meaningful learning. Working hand-in-hand includes ensuring that education leaders read and follow all existing policies that allow students, parents, teachers and community members in general to be involved in the development and implementation of practical plans for educating students and serving all of their needs. It also includes making certain that those same leaders read and follow all policies that allow stakeholders to be involved in monitoring how well those plans are working, in assessing plan results and in ensuring continuous improvement.
Unless each of us becomes more informed about what we have a right to expect from our education leaders and unless each of us is willing to help them do their jobs, our public education system will not provide all children with the education they need and deserve. This blog as well as the other information here at ImproveTexasSchools.org will help you do that, whether you are a parent, a student, a teacher or a taxpayer.
Please tell your friends and neighbors as well as your children’s teachers about ImproveTexasSchools.org. Also, sign up for our e-newsletter. When you do, we will email you periodic articles with useful education-related information and suggested actions to take.
